What Is Kratom?
Kratom, or Mitragyna Speciosa, is a tree native to countries such as: Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand. It is best known for the leaves which distribute over 40 different psychoactive compounds and alkaloids. Farmers harvest Kratom leaves from these mature trees where they then begin the meticulous process of cultivation, drying, and crushing raw kratom leaves.
Users typically chew the leaves, ingest capsules filled with ground leaf powder, or make tea to feel the effects. Later in this article we’ll explore the different types of Kratom and how Green Malay Kratom stands out from the rest.
Is Kratom Legal In The United States?
In the United States, kratom is not regulated. This means that no government body checks or guarantees the quality and safety of kratom products purchased in the U.S., including online.
Kratom has been under a lot of scrutiny lately by the DEA but is still legal at the federal level. The American Kratom Association works diligently to keep kratom legal and available in the United States.
Although kratom is technically legal at the federal level, some states and municipalities have chosen to ban the substance, making it illegal to sell, possess, grow, or use it. Others have imposed age restrictions.
In these states, kratom is illegal to buy, sell, possess or use:

A Brief Overview of Kratom Strains
Kratom is available in 4 different types of “veins” (variations) and are identified by a color. Each vein (color) also has many different types of strains associated with it that provide users with different types of effects.
The four different types of kratom veins are:
Gold Vein Kratom
There are several effects that you are likely to experience when you try this variety of kratom. Commonly reported effects are:
- Pain Relief
- An Increase In Appetite
- Anxiety and Stress Relief
- Energy Boosting Qualities
Green Vein Kratom
Green Vein Kratom can best be described as somewhere in between the red and white kratom strains. It can give you a boost in energy and improve your overall mood.
People commonly report that it helps them to enhance alertness and focus. The green vein strains are more subtle than the red or white veins. In general, they can be useful in treatment of pain and other discomforts, precisely because the green veins do not lead to drowsiness.
Green Vein Kratom is an excellent choice for users that want to use kratom during the day to achieve mental alertness, enhanced mood, and increased energy.
Red Vein Kratom
Red Vein Kratom leaves have red colored stems and veins. Red kratom is considered to be the best selling and most widely available strain of kratom on the market. Red vein kratom mostly comes from Southeast Asia.
Within the red veins, there are considerable differences in the effects and properties. Some strains such as the Red Thai or the Red Vein Borneo have a sedative effect while others like the Red Sumatra produce an elated mood. As with the other types of kratom, the effects depend on the dose and the quality of the products. Small doses create a stimulating effect, but overall the red vein strains are used to promote peace, calm, and sedation.
Red Vein Kratom, in my opinion, is best to be taken at night before bed. It can definitely be sedative so be careful if using it during the day.
White Vein Kratom
White vein kratom is known as a stimulant and positive mood enhancer. The effect of each strain off course depends on the dose and the quality. White veins are considered to be the most stimulating and euphoric of all kratom strains. Many users will take white kratom for increased concentration, motivation and stamina during long working days.
I do want to point out that using White Vein Kratom can cause some users anxiety. So if you’re prone to anxiety you might want to avoid taking this vein and stick to the reds or the greens.
The Positive Effects Of Green Malay Kratom
What makes Green Malay Kratom stand out from other strains is that it provides users with a balanced blend of energy, calm, and euphoria. It’s a great blend to use during the day or even before physical exercise. Green Malay can provide you with a heightened sense of focus which I’m sure a lot of people can use during the work day.
The best way I can describe the feeling of Green Malay Kratom is that everything just seems better. Your mood is uplifted and you look forward to getting the most out of your day. It’s a great strain for those that suffer from anxiety or depression because it really helps to take the edge off from stressful days as well as creating an uplifting effect on your mood.
Possible Side Effects
As with any drug there are possible side effects that you may experience when taking kratom.
A lot of these side effects can be mitigated or avoided altogether if you take the appropriate dose as well as stay properly hydrated throughout the day.
Some of the most common side effects experience are:
- Pupillary constriction (tiny pupils)
- Facial flushing (blushing)
- Tremors or loss of motor coordination
- Nausea and vomiting
- Anxiety (Mostly white strains)
When taking Kratom for the first time or after an extended break it’s best to start off with the smallest effective dose. This will vary from person to person because everyone’s tolerance is different. The following table represents how strong a dose of Kratom is based on its weight in grams. For reference 1 level teaspoon would yield approximately 2 grams. It’s advised when first starting out to measure your dose with a scale that is accurate to 1/10th of a gram.
This is a great scale for measuring small and accurate amounts of kratom.
|Very Strong||12-25 grams|
Possible Withdrawal Symptoms
Habitual users of kratom may experience some moderate withdrawal symptoms when stopping cold turkey. The severity of the symptoms will vary from person to person and is highly dependent on the amount the user was taking and for how long.
Some of these withdrawal symptoms may include:
- High blood pressure
- Runny nose
- Joint and muscle pain
- Intense craving for kratom
Trusted Sources of Green Malay Kratom
I have been personally using MitraGaia for a couple of years now. I have tried their red, green, and gold strains and all have been great.
American Kratom Association is one of the most trusted resources when it comes to all things kratom. They have a list of sponsored sources on their website. I have not personally used any of these companies but if they’re listed on here then I would consider them to be a trusted source.
Kratom has been a complete game changer for me. I used to rely on alcohol to help destress at the end of the day and even sometimes during the day. Since I started using kratom I have completely stopped using alcohol altogether.Using Green Malay Kratom on a regular basis has had a tremendous impact on my overall mood and quality of life. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to enhance their mood and calm their anxiety.
